Davina will notice that the rocks around the riverbank are very slippery. The moss growing over them makes it nearly impossible to find purchase, although she is able to sit down near the edge of the river to get a closer look.

There's not much else to learn from the debris, though. It swirls atop the water in patterns not unlike an array of stars in a galaxy. It's quite beautiful to look at, actually. It's calming, serene, enticing in a way that almost invites her in. Come, take a closer look.

And she does. Wonderful.

Davina's attempt to slowly descend is cautious and careful, which would work in her favor if this were an ordinary river. As soon as her foot touches the water, though, it's kicked out from under her by the impossibly strong current, throwing off her balance and knocking her free from the mossy boulders.

It's quick, at least. There's a splash and she's sucked down, down, down... How deep is this river? Or is she moving downward at all? The current is intense, flinging her this way and that like a ragdoll, though it's... Warm. It's warm down here, and she's among friends. It's too dark down here to see, but she'll feel the ghost of loving hands caressing her shoulders, her hair, before the sharp crack of her skull against rock ends it all.

It's a good thing she left her lantern and torch on the bank, as there's no escaping the river once you're in it. Davina's body will never be found. It will never be, in fact, as she's broken down by the current against the rocky bands. All that's left of her is a fine dust, swirling along the water like a galaxy.

On the bank, it's quiet. Davina is there, and then she's not, and after a moment or two—her lantern quietly snuffs out.

Davina Claire is dead.

Congratulations on figuring out the secret of the river! It came at a cost, but hey, now you know. Feel free to adjust the timing of this exploration in whichever way best suits your own plans, as well, and be sure to submit this experience on the death page.
