PLAYER PLOTS
If you'd like to have your character do something in-game that's a little too wide-reaching for a typical exploration, you've come to the right place! A player plot is any player-orchestrated event or other happening that 1) could affect a noteworthy number of other characters, or even the entire game, and 2) will involve widespread player participation (unlike an exploration, which is a solo/small group affair). Player plots are usually one-off occurrences (like a character hosting a town-wide party) or short-term endeavors that serve as a means to an end (like restoring an existing location). These plots can be positive, such as providing a new resource, or negative, such as destroying a building. In short, it's basically an event run by players.
Whatever it is, the mods won't be in charge of it—but we do have to approve it first. Please describe your player plot in the comments below to open a dialogue with the mods. Be as specific as possible, though we realize some details might need to be hashed out after you get a general approval for the idea. Once we approve your plot, we encourage you to post to the OOC comm to spread the word and potentially get others involved. If you have any updates to relay to us through this process, you're welcome to comment back to us on this page. We like being kept in the loop!
If you'd like to suggest a plot instead of run one yourself, that goes over in the suggestion box. If your character is going to open a business, start a club, or anything else that will serve as a long-term addition to the game instead of a one-off event, that would be a player project.
And if you like an example, here's a mock player plot for you to check out!
Primary Contact: Danielle
Characters(s): Michelle Cheung
The Plot: Michelle has decided to reinforce the existing buildings with paper! As a paper bender, she's able to not only control and reform paper, but strengthen and sharpen it so it has the effective durability of solid steel. It doesn't appear that this takes any continued concentration for her to maintain, as in canon she’s shown to actively use everyday items that she's made out of paper both for herself and for others. Paper is, however, still paper, so prolonged exposure to water will get it soggy and ultimately it will lose its tension and strength. What she'd like to do is fortify existing buildings with an internal layer of her ability-enhanced paper, to keep them strong and safe for as long as possible.
Aside from inclement weather, another unfortunate drawback of this ability is that it will dispel instantly if she's ever to die. The paper will fall down uselessly to the floor until she’s able to pick it all back up again. Because of this, she’ll be calling for people to help more permanently stick up the paper in a massive town-wide paper mache project! We'll need all the hands and glue we can get! And, of course, as many unused paper donations as possible so the Librarian doesn’t come after her.
Date(s): March 31st
Effects: Maybe things will be less likely to get destroyed by naughty, naughty children.

Characters(s): Elden and Wanda but this is available to everyone in game.
The Plot: Elden has said on the network that he wants to make two large logbooks available to everyone to fill with the things they find out about Beacon. Effectively making sure something tangible is put down and to share. This maybe could then spread to a document available on the tablets (but because Elden is a fantasy boy he wouldn't think about google docs).
Date(s):Effective immediately when this is approved.
Effects: I'm just expecting people to share info that they find. Elden expects the same.

Characters(s): Gene, Mel, Rafe, Nate, Wash, Riku+Repliku (maybe other KH kids?) Rosinante and Jo. There are definitely others those are just off the top of my head right now.
The Plot: building a bridge across the river to the village! My post about doing this ICly is here.
Date(s): Prior to the new arrivals, so... maybe the 21st-28th or so? It's not going to be the world's fanciest bridge so they mostly just need to fall some trees, etc etc and there's going to be plenty of hands on deck to help make it go faster. They're probably going to lay down logs underneath the bridge and lash them together so the Creepy River Creature Who Apparently Is Just In Everyone's Heads can't yoink anyone off and it will have a solid wall/railing along the edges. Probably wide enough for a car?
Effects: hopefully everyone can access the village now!

Just one question: Where is the bridge located?

Characters(s): Rafe & Melisandre, plus whoever wants to watch a slick hair idiot play like it's Iron Kitchen up in here.
The Plot: Melisandre has totally been baiting him on going back for more ice cream under the guise of a taste test. Rafe has been holding strong but look. Look. You cannot challenge him. He has to win. He's gotta. 8|
Date(s):
7/29/19 once the bridge is completed and upprobably like fifteen minutes after the upcoming Coraline+Daylight network post because he's Over ThisEffects: THE CRAB ICE CREAM VENDOR IS GOING TO NOW HAVE EVERY GODDAMN FLAVOR PROPERLY IDENTIFIED AND LABELED OKAY. So people will know what they're eating instead of Russian Rouletting their dessert.
no subject
The ice cream crab's ice cream cache has now been labelled. No more ice cream Russian roulette for the good people of Beacon.
In return for this good deed, the ice cream crab takes a moment to scribble wildly on a napkin before handing it to Melisandre, their claws clacking gleefully.
Congratulations, you now have a this.

Characters(s): Crowley, Bucky, Aziraphale (by being stuck with Crowley), but this is open to anyone in the game (especially new people next round)
The Plot: Crowley and Bucky are going to attempt to steal the Ferry and drive it off into the darkness to get away from town. They will be attempting to steal it prior to everyone taking all supplies off of the ship, so this might involve accidental stowaways, purposeful stowaways, and people who just got trapped on board.
Date(s): October 1
Effects: Crowley naturally expects to be free of Beacon and escape. We know nothing is that simple, but would love to see where the water takes them.

This plot is approved, however the actual success of the venture will depend on how versed they are in ship mechanics and technology. You're welcome to put up an OOC plotting post to recruit others for this plot too, if you like! However you'd like to do it is fine with us, and once we have a more solid idea of how they're going to attempt this, we'll work out what happens.

Characters(s): Jason Grace and...I guess the people from Cao Pi's town hall. Ultimately it would be open to anyone in the game interested in playing.
The Plot: During the town hall it was suggested they start learning how to fight and more specifically how to fight in the dark and on uneven ground. Jason took this as an opening to suggest the ancient Camp Half-Blood tradition of Capture the Flag. So now he's going to host a game.
Date(s): Soon-ish? Jason probably wouldn't wait too long before setting it up and he could easily make flags from tree branches and bed sheets. I wouldn't want to overlap the mod event though, so if I need to wait I can. Might also make sense to utilize that full moon?
Effects: Jason hopes that this will help with learning to navigate the woods and possibly also how to maneuver and combat on uneven terrain in the dark. Depending on how the first game goes this could even be a reoccurring thing he could host.
Bonus would be some "team bonding" but Jason won't hold his breath for that one after just one game.

As far as timing goes, this upcoming week before the Gather Up event should work just fine! Saturday, September 14 would be the next full moon, and given that there's nothing else going on that day, capitalizing on the moon would be awesome! It's up to you, though. Let us know, and we'll add it to the game calendar.
And so long as no players ventured too far into the forest, the game could commence without interruption from the freaky forest stuff that crops up during explorations.

Characters(s): Eliot Waugh
The Plot: Eliot's flask is still 90% filled with tequila, and he needs to get rid of it before he starts to hate his fav quick and dirty liquor. He'll try to negotiate use of the Invincible's stash of Triple Sec in favor of using up his tequila and running something of a margarita mixer with nachos and assortment of dips. He'd be mixing up the dips and making the chips and asking to borrow the bar area to host.
Date(s): uh... I want to say soon but I don't want to conflict with event stuff and also don't know if (event result depending) Eliot would be up for running a party afterward just to bring everyone back on the same page. I guess let me know what you guys think.
Effects: Bottomless flask finally emptied? And also building morale and trying to get others to find a better balance between Dire and Fun because Eliot hates when there's too more Dire being thrown around. Also there might not be anymore limes available after this. Because of all the limes needed.

Characters(s): Quentin and hopefully all powered characters in the game
The Plot: Quentin wants to make a list of powered characters (whatever those powers might be) and use this to make better exploration teams
Date(s): As soon as I get the okay
Effects: I hope a lot of the characters can work together and find a way to explore faster or find a way to learn about each other and use their various strengths to help the town. So, Quentin wants them to work together in powered teams because the X men were better as a team than on their own, and Avengers are still better than just each one going off alone. Strength played to strength.
Quentin also wants to show up Cao Pi for being a condescending asshole.

Characters(s): vanitas
The Plot: these two dipshits have been circling like vultures since before Sora disappeared and things are going to come to a head. essentially, the beach and the boathouse are going to become the source of a Squeenix KH style fight
Date(s): Oct 8 during the thunderstorm
Effects: if approved we would like to knock down the boathouse! they'll bust out a support beam and have the whole building collapse.

RIP the boathouse. :(

Characters(s): Aziraphale, possibly other magic users or anyone who has building or lifting magic
The Plot: Rebuilding the ferry and the dock* with - yes, overt usage of miracles and magic.
Date(s): ASAP
Effects: A working ferry but also I guess he's gonna finally reveal, you know, his magics.
He's really sorry guys ;;;

Characters(s): Eliot Waugh
The Plot: A "The Newlyweds Game" style game show using the portable stage, Beacon edition, or as Eliot will be calling it by "The Amazing Neighbors game", subbing the traditional pair up of a wedded couple with randomized pairings of beacon citizens that are signed up on physical lists posted at the Invincible and the General Store. Characters can sign up for themselves or write other people's names down since it's an unmonitored sign-up process where Eliot will only retrieve the lists when he's doing match ups. Winners will receive a five course meal at their convenience (can be also gifted to someone else of their choosing).
Date(s): Nov 13, if possible
Effects: General morale boost and trying to get others to learn more about each other outside of survival means. Hopefully people that attend and participate will have a better understanding of whether or not their general mistrust in others around Beacon is misplaced or not. Also a free, indulgent meal for each of the winning pair. Mainly Eliot just wants to have fun.

Characters(s): Eleven is organizing, but the idea is to get as many people in the game involved as possible
The Plot: Eleven is going to put up a Network post to ask people to play the "Santa's Secret Game" with her because everyone in Beacon deserves nice things after the harrowing events of late November. She will collect and have people draw names (handwaved through me organising and informing participating people OOCly). People will then have the rest of the month ICly to shop for gifts (allowing them to make use of the Night Market for this, too), and will be provided with wrapping paper and other material through Eleven. She'll deliver gifts on the weekend before the Feast of Lights, so characters can use Inboxes or the Feast of Light to play out gift unwrappings and approach their gift giver to say thanks and further facilitate Feast of Light niceness shenanigans.
Date(s): Planned timeline:
- Network post + OOC sign up upon approval
- OOC sign up ends a week later, at which point I'll match everyone up with a gift recipient and contact players OOC privately to let them know whom to get a gift for.
- Gift Submissions should be sent to me within a week, with some buffer days to the holidays. This means sign up closes before the Night Market, Gift submissions close after Night Market
- I can either put up a log for the gift deliveries on Dec 20 - 22, forward dated to the Feast of Lights, to allow for people to get their gifts and approach the gift giver via inbox or otherwise, or if there's a general mingle log for the Feast and you the mods are okay with it, the gift list could be included in it so people can use the Feast mingle to include closed threads with their gift givers/recipients
Effects: Eleven just wants nice things that remind her of good times at home - and she hopes this will also be something nice for everyone in Beacon. OOCly I'm hoping the random gift giver + receiver pair-ups plus deliberate giving of gifts for that person might lead to some nice CR for everyone partaking with enough difference to the gift giving compulsion to still make it viable and fun. NPC participation encouraged :3

Characters(s): Rosalind Lutece, Newt Geiszler
The Plot: The Lutece Device! Is! Happening! Rosalind is building her Lutece Device which should, if all goes smoothly, open a portal home. Will this end the game way early? Yes. Yes it will. So long, suckers.
Date(s): Early February
Effects: ICly, Rosalind desperately wants to leave here, so ideally, it'll get her the hell out of here. OOCly, I expect it to succeed but because of [SCIENCE REASONS] it will only work within universe.
no subject
(JK, we've talked about this, but for posterity - the Lutece device will be able to do "quicktravel" stuff that adheres to our usual teleportation rules/nerfs, but alas, no interdimensional travel.)

Characters(s): Daylight vis Lornlit,
The Plot:
With the help of Daylight, who will be escorting a majority of them through the event to act as either interpreter or moral support, the excited spirits will be giving gifts and parcels they worked very hard on to the character who caught their eyes!
Date(s):
February 5 - 7 (OOC)
Sign up. - In the OOC community, I’ll be throwing up a post that explains the event and have two forms the players have an option to fill if they’re interested in joining in.
Generic spirit form. - A form that asks for the characters’ likes and dislikes, along with the option to opt-out from several actions that could happen during the lead-up and the event itself.
Customized spirit form. - A form that’s the same as the form above, only this one is much more in-depth in its questions so the spirit’s gift and personality is more tailored to the character in question. NOTE: This form will have a cap on it to ensure I don’t get too bogged down on whipping up custom-tailored spirits should there be a lot of characters who sign up.
February 8 - 12 (IC)
Spirit Gathering Intel. - Characters who signed up will, now and then, get a reaction reply in their inbox or in their log threads or in their network threads, describing strange little events that happen either around their residence or when they’re going about their day. This is to be their IC hints for the spirits’ trying to figure out what the characters would like as a gift.
February 14 (IC) / February 15 - 16 (OOC)
The event itself! I’ll set up a post in the log community that will consist of the following:
— A description of the attempts by the spirits to make it Valentine’s Day-is as possible, from throwing glitter around to make the areas more pretty or hanging paper hearts and pretty rocks on trees or scribbling hearts on the residences of the characters! Basically doing the well-meaning but gremlin-menacing things the spirits are known to do during the holiday events.
— For my sanity’s sake, a toplevel where characters can finally meet their spirit admirer and interact with the spirit and, now and then, Daylight. Judging by how the interaction is going, RNG events can spice up the back-and-forth until the present is finally given. Some are trinkets. Some will be pretty dirt. Some may prove useful or detrimental to characters.*
* I’ll send a list to the mods for suggested gifts + buffs + debuffs if this part of the plot is approved. If it’s not, it’ll be simple trinkets and items that won’t do anything special.
Characters will be encouraged to interact with one another as they puzzle out what’s going on or compare gifts or try to clean up the mess of their poor, poor houses.
Effects: To run a sort of breather event for the playerbase to give characters a chance to relax and unwind from the fallout of events held in the past and before the big ones hit them. To also foster IC positive spirit-character interactions to show the spirits’ meaning well in their own… spirit-like way.

Characters(s): Will and Minimus Ambus
The Plot: I think this fits here better than player projects since it's a one-time deal, but let me know if I need to move it! Will is going to attempt to program Beacon Excel to keep up his end of a bargain with Minimus. The goal is to create an app for spreadsheets, with tabs and sorting features (by date, topic, that sort of thing). The spreadsheets could also be sent to other users, probably as an attachment to another message. Will is missing his big hacker tablet, but he's still good with programming and this doesn't seem too crazy.
Date(s): Starting Feb. 11th, to however long it takes to finish (like a week or two maybe? longer if he runs into setbacks)
Effects: It'll be available to the larger network if he's successful, so +1 app for the public!

hey will's messin around again
Characters(s): Will, Rosinante
The Plot: okay so back in Feb. one of the Night Market vendors, Alistair, gave Rosinante a program that could be used to search the network. unfortunately he made that program copy-locked so that no one else could have it but Rosinante. what Will is trying to do is painstakingly copy the code line by line, omitting the anti-piracy parts, and thus creating a duplicate of the app anyway. his duplicate could then be copied and given out to specific people.
Date(s): technically back in February (starting the 10th) but I'll assume it would take him some time to complete it. a couple of weeks at the least but up to a month or so, depending on complications.
Effects: if he's successful, he will have a copy of Rosinante's network google app, and Rosinante plans to distribute a few to other characters as well. unfortunately they're bein sneaky so it won't be a public thing for now unless someone uploads theirs to the network. (honestly Will's personal goal is to one-up this other programmer, but the search function is a nice bonus.)
